NBA Playoffs, Lakers Shut Down San Antonio

Friday, May 23

Game 2, Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Lakers truly shut down the San Antonio offense. The Spurs shot only 34% from the field. Tim Duncan was 6-14 (12 points, 16 rebounds), Tony Parker 6-15 (13 points) and Manu Ginobili 2-8 (seven points). These guys are great shooters so the Laker defense had to account for those numbers. Kobe Bryant for L.A. led all scorers with 22 points, and had plenty of back up from his teammates. Lamar Odom finished with 20 points and Jordan Farmar with 14. Again, the Spurs were outscored in the paint 46-30 and their outside shots weren't falling. Didn't I say this would be problem, if they didn't make their 3-point shots? S.A. made only 6 of 23 three-point attempts. Seven of their shots from the field were blocked by L.A. compared to only one block against the Lakers. The former NBA champs are going to have to develop some inside scoring. The Lakers shot 54% from the field and 90% from the free throw line (18-20). They had 8 more rebounds than the Spurs and batted away 7 passes. The only good news for San Antonio is that the series now moves to the Alamo city. This series is not over, the Spurs will undoubtedly come back to make it competitive. May the best team win the series. Next: Game 3, Sunday, 8:30 p.m. (TNT).
