Even though San Antonio won the series 4-1 against the Phoenix Suns, it wasn't easy and the Suns gave them all they could handle. Most of the games were close. Congratulations to the Spurs who played with a lot of heart. Phoenix played well in spurts but wasn't consistent throughout the series. Last night they only made 54% of their free throws, compared to S.A.'s 80%! The Spurs still won despite poor shooting from the field thanks to their free throw shooting. Next for San Antonio: New Orleans.
Speaking of New Orleans, the Hornets also closed out Dallas last night to win the series 4-1. The Hornets shot the ball better than the Mavericks and that is the most important stat of all. New Orleans out-played a not too shabby Dallas team and I suspect it will give San Antonio all it can handle. Even though they have the home court advantage, the Spurs will be a tough challenge for the Hornets. I hope for an exciting, competitive series. Next for New Orleans: San Antonio.
Detroit won convincingly against Philadelphia in game five to boost the Pistons to a 3-2 series lead. The Pistons shot 58% for the game (field goals)! The Sixers still shot a decent 42% but still lost the battle. This series will probably go seven games and I feel that either team can win it.
The Jazz and Rockets. Wow, what a strange series! If the Jazz don't win at home Friday, they don't win the series. The Rockets pounded them last night in Houston by out-shooting them in every shooting category:
Field Goals 3-Pointers Free Throws
Jazz 36% 22% 56%
Rockets 46% 33% 78%
Nobody can win shooting like that. So, unless Utah can out-shoot the Rockets and win game six, I think Houston will win game seven and the series in Houston.
